✨It’s easy to forget the benefit in our efforts. Especially when life shows you that the outcome of your efforts is out of your control. For example, you do everything in your power to be healthy but you still have aches and pains or you still get sick.
Perhaps you follow a spiritual path, and you realize no matter what you believe you aren’t spared a dose of tragedy.
I’ve always liked the quote by Shakespeare, “some rise by sin and some by virtue fall”. I think it's true that many people do horrible things and live great lives, and some do everything right and fall into the hands of despair. There is little rhyme, reason, or control over life but that does not mean that your efforts are useless. If you really reflect on it, many people have benefited from you, laughed because of you, or learned from you. I often wonder if practicing better health habits are really worth anything. People tell you all these exercises you have to do, or foods to eat and at the end of the day you still end up old and dead in the ground.
The truth is fitness and nutrition changed my life, and not overnight. I became strong and capable of any athletic endeavor I’ve pursued. I have a routine to hang onto when life is out of control. The fitness industry lends itself to other subsets in philosophy, psychology, and spirituality that are additionally beneficial to life beyond lifting weights.
I’ve never liked the words transformation or healing because it sounds like people just have some great change over night. Life is lifeing all the time. Anything you pursue, be it art, music, fitness, psychology, writing can lead to something great. It's all coming together through experience and curiosity. We are all the collector of moments, knowledge, and energy - good, bad and everything in between, all transformative, all healing, sometimes funny, and sometimes sad to make this remarkable thing called you. Cheers to going on, despite the outcome, or nihilistic ideas. Like my dad always said “ideas stand in the corner and laugh at us, while we fight over them.”
